That all sounds fine & dandy but...

Flames D wasn’t exactly stellar. The Jets D went through a big upheaval & still allowed less goals. So in goal is where it will be decided & the Jets have that. Gaudreau & Monahan are from being ok defensively.

The biggest factor in the Jets giving up so many high risk chances has more to do with their lack of an effective defensive system then the players on the ice. Winnipeg spends too much time chasing the puck in their own end which leads to way too many high quality chances for their opponent. Also the Jets defense was often injured so they had to rely on 4 or 5 bottom pairing players or worse, lack of skilled d-men in the lineup at the same time. What a disaster. Also their ability to score with a quick counter attack offense, which used their fast and skilled group of forwards kept games close. Finally if it wasn't for Helly the Jets would have had zero chance of making it to the play in game.

Goaltending is gonna be huge as it always is in the playoffs...I have a feeling Talbot’s gonna take the lead (he knows what’s at stake for a new contract as well) and I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes toe to toe with the head to head matchup with Hellebuyck (as good as he is) giving him that old school confidence like he had 3 years or so back and hopefully go on a series run...🤞🏻

It’s a big plus for Calgary that Maurice hinders the Jets with his lines and line matching. The Jets could be so much better with just a little tweaking.

While not necessarily a huge x-factor I wonder if maybe some prospects could be looked at for at least reider’s spot on the fourth line. While I think Rindaldo would be the first player to swap in, it would be interesting to see a guy like Pelletier or Phillips to get a game

0 chance Pelletier sees any games and Philips will be quite far down the depth chart barring a really good "training camp" in early July. I like the idea of adding skill through all 4 lines though meaning giving Gawdin some time. Jets are known for being big and tough though so guessing Rinaldo will be given every chance to play.

Although I think the other two are more talented players you do have a point about what rinaldo brings to the table. With that in mind the likeliest possibility of that happening would be if jankowski is sucking and they throw gawdin in as you said.

While I don’t think Pelletier makes the nhl next year I’m just really looking forward to see what he can become

Optimistic about Pelletier but I bet he spends next year in the A if he's eligible. I don't see him cracking the lineup unless major forward changes occur this offseason and he steps up in terms of size.

I believe Pelletier was just named captain of a team he was traded to in the “Q” so he’ll be there. As I said I don’t see him playing in the league next year and unless we’re facing some big cap problems he will likely spend at least 1 year in the AHL after that.

While the playoffs isn’t necessarily the best place for a kid to get a cup of coffee in the league it would likely be easier for a young guy like him knock the rust off versus the vets. Also there’s a fair amount of cases of kids getting called up to the league and going off for a couple games or at the very least provide a ton of energy.

I dont think he's eligible for AHL it's CHL or NHL like the situation with Bennett.

Yup he’ll be in the Q as he’s not full fledged NHL ready yet and we have no reason to rush him

Jets are not big and tough anymore. No Buff, Chiarot, Trouba, Meyers or even Tanev (who racked up the hits). Lowry is big and tough but it ends there. A few others have size but dont throw it around nearly as much - penalty minutes are waaaay down from the past decade.

Honestly if Calgary rolls out a tough lineup that has a line or two that get in the face of Hellebuyck there is not much to counter it with exception of potentially putting in one or two physical D with borderline skills - potentially exploiting skill deficiency.

Also Calgary has the home ice advantage, story said Winnipeg.

Still think these teams are really well matched & should be a great series if we ever get hockey. Hearing players are still thinking twice about this. Not sure how players will be willing to increase that in your face intensity level given the situation.
It does change the playing field & I really like the skilled forwards on the Jets.

Jets are the home team for two of the games.
